Danny Kanell says SEC teams are ‘terrified’ to travel north for CFP games

Danny Kanell is never shy about speaking his mind and making good shots. The quarterback-turned-analyst isn’t shy about bringing in the SEC either.

On Saturday, Kanell was at CBS Sports headquarters for his “Kanell’s Conspiracies” segment. Kanell’s theory for this weekend is that SEC teams are “afraid” of playing in cold weather.

“I think the SEC is terrified of traveling up north to try to play a Playoff game on the road,” Kanell said

Kanell then described how Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss will all currently play road games in cold weather, according to the latest CFP rankings. Alabama would go to Notre Dame, Georgia would go to Penn State and Ole Miss would go to Indiana.

“They’re scared, they’re terrified,” the analyst said. “I saw receivers last week, it was 55 degrees in Athens and they had heaters and benches warmed up for these players on the sidelines.”

Playing up north in the winter would be a culture shock for SEC teams. Many players on SEC teams also grew up in the South, so playing in cold weather would be a new challenge indeed.

It will obviously take some time before we know what the CFP schedule will be. Most teams have at least 2 games left and the final CFP selection is on December 8.
