POLOKWANE — Tears poured out Zachariah Olivier was accused of murder on a pig farm when he appeared before the Mankweng magistrate Court for his bail application.

However, the case on Friday, November 22, 2024 could not go ahead due to the absence of a lawyer.

SA unsympathetic when Olivier breaks down

The 60-year-old, together with two others, Adriaan de Wet and William Musoro – who were not with him in court during this appearance – is charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

The trio are also facing charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition without a permit and failure to perform justice after allegedly killing two women at an Onverwacht farm in Thabazimbi Local Municipality on August 17.

In addition, Musoro is accused of violating immigration law.

Mother-of-four Maria Makgato and Zimbabwean Lucia Ndlovu were shot dead after allegedly entering the pig farm.

Makgato, 47, and Ndlovu, 34, accompanied by Ndlovu’s husband, had reportedly dumped and gone to collect nearly expired goods left behind by goods from a truck.

Short news reported that earlier Police have found the remains of the women in a pigsty on August 20 and arrested Olivier, the farm’s owner, and his workers, De Wet, 19, and Musoro, 45, a day later.

Ndlovu’s husband managed to flee and sought help. He was shot once.

During his brief stay in the dock on Friday, Olivier cut an emotional figure as he broke down in tears during the proceedings. You could see him crying into a cloth and wiping tears from his eyes.

At one point, Olivier failed to get up when the orderly ordered people in the court to stand up due to his dire condition.
