Section 60 powers in Walsall extended after Darlaston shooting

Provide an update today, October 13, West Midlands Police said the powers have been extended until 1:30am tomorrow, Monday, October 14.

The Force said the extra powers allow it to search people without the need for reasonable grounds – with the aim of keeping everyone safe.

Section 60 is in force for the entire Walsall borough and follows a serious incident after a man was shot in Charles Foster Street, Darlaston, shortly after 9am on Friday.

A 40-year-old man was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds and is currently in stable condition.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We have extended our Section 60 powers in #Walsall today and overnight.

“The powers have been extended until 1:30 am tomorrow (Monday).

“Extra powers allow us to search people without the need for reasonable grounds. Our goal is to keep everyone safe.

“Section 60 is in force for the entire Walsall borough.

“This follows a serious incident after a man was shot in Charles Foster Street, Darlaston, shortly after 9am on Friday. A man, in his 40s, was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds and is currently in stable condition.
