Former professional footballer, fake Uber driver and school sports coach jailed

These are the criminals from our region who have been locked up over the past seven days

A former professional footballer, a mother who stabbed another woman 20 times with a screwdriver and a fake Uber driver who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a teenager were among the Merseyside criminals jailed last week. A sports coach who bullied and abused students at the school where he worked was also locked up.

In the meantime, Liverpool Crown Court learned that a man went on the run when his DNA was found on a gun days after it was used in a shooting. Here are the faces of twelve suspects from our region who have been imprisoned over the past seven days:

Elliot Millar

A sports coach who drew a penis in a student’s face at the school where he worked has been sentenced to prison. Elliot Millar hit students and placed them in a headlock while she worked at Life Wirral Gym in New Brighton.

He allegedly only started working at the establishment the day after an ‘informal’ interview with the director, without having undergone any training. A judge called his actions “horribly inappropriate” and “downright bullying.”

Millar admitted four counts of assault and threatening behaviour. When he appeared in the dock, wearing a black suit over a white shirt and gray tie, he was jailed for 12 weeks as his parents sat in tears in the public gallery.

Thomas Morrison

A man panicked and went on the run when his DNA was found on a firearm used in a shooting before it was discovered hidden in the woods. Thomas Morrison was forensically linked to a Russian-made pistol that fired a hail of bullets at a property on a residential street.

But as he prepared to face a jury over his involvement with the deadly weapon, the former laborer and scaffolder put his guard down and did not show his face in court for months. A judge today told him he had merely “delayed the inevitable” in his efforts to avoid justice.

Morrison was eventually convicted of a prohibited weapon in his absence before being arrested last month. He was sentenced to five years and one month in prison.

Elizabeth Lee

A mother-of-seven ‘snapped’ and stabbed another woman 20 times with a screwdriver. Elizabeth Lee launched a ‘frenzied revenge attack’ on her ‘defenceless’ victim, who was already lying injured on the ground after being attacked by an unknown man.

Despite the brutal attack on a homeless shelter, the thug says she has “no regrets at all”. But she cried as she was locked up over the shocking incident.

Lee admitted attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and possessing a bladed article in a public place. She appeared via video link to HMP Styal and wiped away tears throughout the hearing before being jailed for three years and nine months.

Gareth Shaw

A man has been jailed and given a criminal behavior order after attacking a shop assistant in Matalan and stealing Tesco and Holland and Barrett. Gareth Shaw pleaded guilty to six counts of theft and common assault and was locked up for 17 weeks.

A thug ordered a man to give him drugs and cash before stabbing him in his own flat. Dawit Alemseged stabbed his victim after refusing to comply with demands, leaving him struggling to sleep and ‘unwilling’ to leave the house.

The 23-year-old admitted unlawful wounding on the day he was due to stand trial. He was jailed for a year and given a restraining order banning him from contacting the complainant for three years.

Jamie Menagh

A former professional footballer has been convicted for his role in a £250 million conspiracy where Class A drugs were smuggled into the country, hidden in a trailer. Jamie Menagh was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for distributing drugs to couriers who then distributed South American cocaine and heroin in Britain.

Jonathan Derby

A man with a history of domestic violence grabbed his ex-girlfriend and bit her multiple times after she rejected his drunken advances. Jonathon Derby has “severely beaten up” his former partner.which left her with nasty bruises.

The 37-year-old admitted that the assault caused actual bodily harm. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison.

Liam Lewis

Liam Lewis used a fire extinguisher to fight his way into a phone shop during riots in Liverpool city centre. He pleaded guilty to violent disorder and burglary and was jailed for two years and eight months.

Fitwi Tekeste

A teenager thought she was getting into an Uber to take her to McDonald’s, but was kidnapped instead and sexually abused. Fitwi Tekeste only saw his victim inside The center of Liverpool in the early hours after enjoying a night out with friends.

The restaurant worker then convinced her that he was her taxi driver and lured her into his car under false pretenses. She was then subjected to a ‘nightmare’ ordeal over the course of almost two hours as she was driven along the M62 and assaulted.

Tekeste admitted one count of sexual assault, while another count of kidnapping had to be included in the file. When he appeared in the dock, dressed in a gray tracksuit and assisted by an interpreter, he was given a 45-month prison sentence.

David Macht

A heartless burglar broke into the home of a dementia patient while she was in hospital and stole her deceased son’s pacifier. David Power also targeted the home of a recently bereaved widower when she was on holiday to fund his £100-a-day drug habit.

The 42-year-old admitted three counts of burglary, attempted burglary and four charges of breaching a criminal behavior order. When he appeared in the dock wearing a blue Emporio Armani sweater, he was jailed for five years.

Ethan Moran

A pedophile chef put his head in his hands as he was sent back to prison. Ethan Moran was originally imprisoned for sexually abusing a teenage girl but after his release from prison he failed to comply with the terms of the sex offenders register, with police discovering he was living at an address with three children after being informed by his own mother.

The 24-year-old admitted that he had not complied with the reporting obligation. He initially put his head in his hands and then nodded after being told he would be jailed for six months.

John Charlton

A man has come up with an ‘unbelievable’ excuse after his DNA was found on a murder weapon. John Charlton was forensically linked to a Glock pistol used in a fatal shooting and also fired into a house on another occasion.

But he then concocted a bizarre story that he had handled the weapon, believing it was just a toy gun, after tripping over it while delivering firewood to a house. He told a judge, “I’m sorry,” as he was locked up.

Charlton admitted possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of ammunition without a certificate. He was sentenced to five years and seven months in prison.
