Three dead in Ohio City, shooting suspect may have committed suicide

VAN WERT COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – A man is believed to have committed suicide after killing two others in a news release from the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Department.

Their office received a call around 8 this morning from someone stating that a friend had confessed to killing his girlfriend and another man. The caller said the friend also said he was going to kill himself.

Deputies then met with that individual and obtained more information by talking to several other people.

The release goes on to say they then entered a home in Ohio City to check on the resident’s well-being.

Once inside, officers found a woman and a man both dead from gunshot wounds.

The Van Wert Sheriff’s Department says these two victims were identified as 29-year-old Shelby M. Coats of Ohio City and 30-year-old Andrew C. Lause of Delphos.

Police then say they found a car owned by 51-year-old Paul A. Boldman of Ohio City in another home.

After obtaining a warrant to enter that home, officers found Boldman with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was still alive and was immediately removed from the home and turned over to EMS Van Wert.

Boldman was transported to Ohio Health Van Wert, where he was later pronounced dead.

Agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in processing the scene. The Van Wert County Coroner’s Office and Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post also assisted with the incident.
