Video: UP groom clings to moving truck to chase man who stole note from garland

A video of a groom clinging to a moving truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut has gone viral on social media. The drama unfolded during a wedding procession when a man snatched a banknote from the groom’s garland and fled the scene.

The groom, who was on his way to a temple after the ceremonial ghudchadhi (riding of the groom), left the rituals and followed the thief. In an attempt to escape, the suspect jumped into a moving truck. The groom also clung to the window of the truck and followed him. When the driver refused to stop the vehicle, the groom remained attached to the vehicle as it sped forward, drawing the attention of onlookers.

Family members and wedding guests also joined the chase. Finally, the truck was forced to stop and the irate groom, along with his family members, attacked the driver and mistook him for the suspect.

A passerby recorded the entire episode with his cell phone. The video, which prominently shows a building with ‘Namaste Meerut’ painted on it, has gone viral on social media platforms.

DECLARATION FROM THE TRANSPORT COMPANY

The truck is owned by a local transport company whose owner, Manish Sehgal, shared a different perspective. According to Sehgal, their driver, Jagpal, was unaware of the commotion behind him. He claimed the groom accused the truck of crashing into him on the road, leading to the dramatic chase. Sehgal further alleged that the groom and his party assaulted the driver despite having no connection with the stolen note.

“We have reported the incident to the police and plan to take legal action against the attackers,” Sehgal said.
