The victims, identified as Vivek, Amit and a third person yet to be named, were traveling from Gurugram to Bareilly to attend a wedding. Their vehicle relied on Google Maps for navigation and unknowingly approached an incomplete overpass. Unaware of the danger, they drove onto the structure, which ended abruptly, causing the car to fall fifty feet into the river below.

Local residents discover the wreckage

The tragedy came to light the next morning when locals spotted the mangled remains of the car in the shallow riverbed. Authorities were immediately alerted and police arrived on the scene to recover the bodies and begin an investigation.

“Around 9.30 am, we were informed about a damaged car found in the Ramganga river,” a police spokesperson said. “Our team discovered a Wagon R, believed to be a taxi, that had fallen from the incomplete bridge. The bodies of the victims were recovered and sent for post-mortem. While two persons have been identified as Vivek and Amit, efforts are on to confirm the identity of the third victim,” the official added.

Family raises questions about negligence

Distraught relatives of the deceased criticized local authorities and accused them of negligence. They wondered why the under-construction bridge did not have proper barricades or warning signs to prevent such accidents.

“The officials must be held responsible for this negligence. Why was the bridge incomplete and why were no safety measures taken?” a family member asked. They called for a formal investigation and urged filing of an FIR against the construction department concerned.
