NBL players Montrezl Harrell and Kendric Davis suspended for fighting with spectators

NBL players Montrezl Harrell and Kendric Davis have both been suspended and fined for their roles in a fight that also involved a spectator.

A single-member tribunal upheld the league’s penalties for the pair’s actions during an unsavory few minutes between Melbourne United and the Adelaide 36ers, which soured the October 17 clash against John Cain Arean.

The United-Sixers clash exploded during the final quarter as a back-and-forth between Harrell and United’s Rob Loe drew teammates and ultimately fans.

The situation escalated further when the Sixers returned to the bench and engaged in a war of words with courtside spectators that quickly turned physical.

Four spectators were removed from the venue, including a season ticket holder.

The league has yet to announce a decision on the investigation into spectator behavior.

The tribunal was postponed until Monday as the 36ers hired an attorney who specialized in “racially based, derogatory or offensive language issues” to defend Harrell and Davis.

Harrell was suspended for three matches and fined a total of $3,685 after the tribunal accepted two charges of beating, one charge of participating in a melee and one charge of improperly grabbing or handling a spectator.

Davis was suspended for two matches after his charge of improperly grabbing or handling a spectator was upheld.

The NBL said the 36ers could appeal the decision to a full-member tribunal.

Adelaide is at home the following Saturday when they play the JackJumpers.
