Antalya Airport resumes operations after an incident involving a Russian plane – Society and culture

ISTANBUL, November 25. /TASS/. Antalya Airport has resumed accepting flights after a recent incident involving a Russian plane belonging to Azimuth airline, according to its online scoreboard.

Earlier, the Turkish Ministry of Transport announced the suspension of aircraft arrivals until 3 a.m. on Monday (local time, corresponding to Moscow time). After this, dozens of flights were diverted to other airports in Turkey, including those in Ankara and Izmir.

Late on November 24, a Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100 operated by the airline Azimuth took flight A45051 from the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi and caught fire while landing at Antalya airport.

No injuries have been reported. All 89 passengers and the six-person crew were evacuated from the aircraft via inflatable ramps.

The Russian Consulate General in Antalya said Rosaviatsiya, Russia’s air transport regulator, and Azimuth provided the passengers with the necessary assistance. Some were able to leave the airport safely, while others decided to wait at the baggage carousel. They were provided with food. Those scheduled to return to Russia were housed in a hotel until the arrival of the reserve flight, the Consulate General specified.
