Dejan Kulusevski explains how Tottenham dominate Manchester City

Manchester citythe side that has won four Premier League titles in a row amid countless other trophies during Pep Guardiola’s tenure is on an unusual run of five losses.

However, just as surprising sounding as their 4-0 capitulation at home Tottenham was over the weekend, it was also by far the most famous of the five defeats.

Spurs have a great record against City in the league so far this decade. The Londoners lead the head-to-head 6-3-1 over the side that finished top for most of those seasons, with a very recent additional win over them in the League Cup.

The star player of Saturday’s thrashing was Dejan Kulusevski. With Ange Postecoglou having to make do without Rodrigo Bentancur in midfield due to a long-term suspension, the Swede was one of many who have stepped up.

And his comments to the media after the result were telling, outlining exactly why the formidable City are in fact a very favorable opponent for their own style.

“Because City sometimes have a lot of ball possession, we can rest when we defend,” Kulusevski explained after the match The Express.

“There is so much space up there, we play one against one and then it is always dangerous because we have a lot of quality.

“It’s always great to play against great teams because they always want to play football.

“When you play against lower teams, that is sometimes not the case. There is not much football because there are a lot of fouls, a lot of injuries and it is slow.”

The 24-year-old subsequently called the result a highlight of his career. And based on his performance, there may be more of that caliber on the horizon

“I believed we would win because we have come here the last few years and played really well,” he said.

“So this is the game I’m most looking forward to this year and it happened again: glory to God.

“I would say this is the best result ever in my career. It’s a big night for the whole club, for the coach, for the players.”
