The prosecutor is demanding a 20-year prison sentence for the Frenchman accused of drugging and massively raping his wife

AVIGNON, France – Prosecutors on Nov. 25 asked that Dominique Pelicot be sentenced to 20 years in prison for drugging and raping his wife Gisele Pelicot and recruiting dozens of others to rape her for nearly a decade, in a case that has shocked the world.

“The maximum sentence is twenty years, which is a lot, but at the same time too little, given the seriousness of the acts committed and repeated,” the prosecutor, Ms. Laure Chabaud, told police. court.

Mr Pelicot has admitted to drugging and raping his wife orchestrating her mass rape.

The trial has attracted worldwide attention and has become an investigation into the pervasiveness of sexual violence.

Despite video evidence against them, most of the 50 other men on trial have said they did not realize they were raping her or that they did not intend to rape her, or that they placed all the blame on her husband, whom they said that he had manipulated them. REUTERS
