Honda Activa electric teased again ahead of launch, swappable battery station installed – Bike News

As of now, the battery subscription module is offered on very few electric two-wheelers in India, with Hero MotoCorp being the only mainstream manufacturer to offer battery swapping technology.

Honda is gearing up to launch its first-ever electric two-wheeler in India on November 27, 2024. Ahead of the launch, the Japanese automaker is building hype around the launch by aggressively promoting the upcoming battery-powered scooter on its social media platforms. The company would now be called eActiva or Activa Electric and has now shared another teaser of the electric scooter.

While the previous teaser highlights the removable battery setup under the seat, the latest video reveals the charging port offered in the scooter. This means that the Activa Electric offers both the functionality of charging the battery via a conventional charger or charging it externally.

This will be a first in Indian consumer two-wheeler market where a product is offered both with the battery as a fixed unit and with the battery as a rental service. This is aided by the battery swapping stations that Honda has set up in some parts of the country. One such station has been installed at a fuel filling station near Hulimavu in Bangalore. Interestingly, the launch of Honda’s new electric scooter is also taking place in the capital of Karnataka.

These battery swapping stations provide a convenient solution for Activa Electric owners by simply replacing a dead battery with a fully charged one. This allows riders to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted journeys, especially in urban areas and for those with high daily mileage.

The charging station bears a striking similarity to the charging stations used by Honda on the global market. It appears to be designed to accommodate the removable batteries referenced for the upcoming Activa Electric. Interestingly, these batteries bear a strong resemblance to the ones in the Honda EM1 electric scooter. From the previous teasers, it is very likely that Honda’s upcoming electric scooter will be based on the CUV e: showcased at EICMA 2024.
