Two teens arrested after 12-year-old girl was stabbed

Two teenage boys have been arrested after a serious attack on a 12-year-old girl.

Officers were called to a report of an assault near the car park of Harbor Road, Barry Island, at around 5pm GMT on Sunday.

A 12-year-old girl was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, with serious injuries, but her condition is described as not life-threatening.

South Wales Police said an investigation is underway and they are treating the incident as a stabbing.

The 13-year-old boy and the 15-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

The 13-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article. The two boys are still in police custody.

Det Insp Phil Marchant, of South Wales Police, said the incident and the age of those involved “will cause concern within the community”.

He added that the two suspects, known to the victim, were arrested within an hour and that police are not looking for anyone else.
