MNJTF and OPHK foil terrorist attack on Borno community – News – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

Troops of Sector 3, Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), in collaboration with Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have foiled an attack on Kukawa community in Borno State.

According to the task force, Islamic State West Africa (ISWAP) terrorists used a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED) to ambush the troops.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama in Maiduguri on Monday that the terrorists launched their attack with the SVBIED but the troops responded quickly. Soldiers from the 101 Special Forces Battalion killed the terrorists in a fierce firefight.

Furthermore, he added that other surviving insurgents were forced to abandon their guns and logistical supplies and flee to Lake Chad. Makama reiterated that the troops received air support from OPHK’s air component, which carried out precision airstrikes against the retreating ISWAP terrorists.

In addition to the airstrikes, he added that the reinforcement of the special forces battalion helped consolidate military dominance, forcing the terrorists to retreat in disarray.

The troops also recovered various combat equipment during the coordinated military operations in the Lake Chad region.

Military intelligence sources warned that ISWAP may attempt to regroup by possibly attacking fortifications or military posts with improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

He therefore urged the troops to exercise increased vigilance.

“This is in anticipation of a possible attack on the military base in Malam Fatori, a border community with Niger in Borno State,” Makama said.
