DPS identifies three motorcyclists killed in crash in Southern Arizona; DUI suspected

COCHISE COUNTY, AZ (AZFamily) — The Arizona Department of Public Safety has identified the three people killed in a crash near Tombstone over the weekend.

The four-vehicle crash happened in the eastbound lanes of State Route 80 between St. David and Tombstone around 6 p.m.

Officers say a red Infiniti SUV was headed east when the driver crossed the median and crashed into three motorcyclists, killing all three riders.

DPS identified the victims as 55-year-old James Maurice Samuel of Maricopa, 37-year-old Anthony Odell Davis of Maricopa and 40-year-old Bennie Melvin Eugene Dansby of Glendale.

Dansby and Davis died at the scene while Samuel was rushed to a Tucson hospital where he later died.

The driver of the SUV has been identified as a 41-year-old man from Huachuca, a city just north of Sierra Vista.

Investigators say the driver of the SUV is believed to be impaired. Criminal charges are pending, but his name has not yet been released.
