Semarang police shoot student allegedly involved in gang fight – Archipelago

A police officer in Semarang, Central Java, reportedly shot dead a student of State Vocational High School (SMKN) 4 Semarang, allegedly for involvement in a brawl early Sunday morning.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, but died due to the severity of his injuries.

Police Chief of Semarang City, Sr. Comr. Irwan Anwar said the victim, identified as GRO, 16, was allegedly a gang member involved in a brawl with another gang.

The fight broke out early Sunday morning around 1 a.m. in front of the Paramount residential complex in West Semarang.

An officer from the Semarang City Police, returning home from duty on a motorcycle, passed the scene and encountered a gang fight.

The officer tried to break up the fight but was attacked instead.

“When the officer passed by and saw the fight, he tried to intervene. However, he was attacked, prompting him to take strict measures,” Irwan said at the Semarang police station on Monday evening, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
