Father accused of murdering four-month-old daughter, leaving twins seriously injured, returns to court

GOSHEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) – The father of twin 4-month-old baby girls accused of killing one and severely hurting the other will return to court Tuesday.

Andrew Kammerer is set for a pretrial hearing at 9:30 a.m. before Clermont County Common Pleas Court Judge Kevin Miles.

He is being held in the Clermont County Jail on a $5 million bond.

Kammerer, 33, pleaded not guilty earlier this month to one count of aggravated murder, three counts of murder, two counts of assault and four counts of child endangerment, court records show.

He faces life in prison without parole if convicted on all charges, according to Clermont County Prosecutor Mark Tekulve.

“My heart goes out to (the twin babies) family at this terrible time,” the prosecutor said earlier this month.

“Cases like these make our work as prosecutors challenging and heartbreaking, yet essential. We must fight for justice for those who cannot fight for themselves.”

Kammerer called 911 and reported that one of the babies had been seriously injured, but prosecutors say this was not an accident.

According to Goshen Township police, Goshen Township firefighters responded to a report of the child having difficulty breathing after a fall in the 1500 block of East Meadowbrook Drive.

Kammerer told police he was changing her diaper when she fell off the changing table, investigators wrote in a criminal complaint.

He said he performed CPR on his daughter until the ambulance arrived.

The baby’s autopsy revealed that her injuries were “consistent with an accidental fall,” according to the complaint.

The baby was “subjected to an extremely violent attack,” Assistant Prosecutor Lara Baron-Allen told the judge during Kammerer’s first appearance earlier this month.

“This,” she said, “was not a single incident. “This was a pattern of abuse perpetrated by (Kammerer) on two infants.”

His lawyer told the judge it was possible his daughter’s death was an accident, pointing out there were no witnesses or video of what happened.

While his daughter was in the hospital, Goshen detectives had the other baby examined by doctors who determined she had also suffered “serious physical injuries in the past that were unreported,” police said.
