Jimmy Thelin is eager for a fast start for Aberdeen against Hibs

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin is keen to see his side come out of the blocks at Easter Road tonight after saying the Dons’ slow start at St Mirren on Saturday was “not the way we want to go about it”.

Second-placed Dons found themselves a goal behind after 19 minutes in Paisley and eventually lost 2–1, ending their unbeaten league start and leaving them three points behind Celtic.

“We had a good conversation with the staff and the players. We always do things together when we want to talk about certain aspects,” said manager Thelin.

“For us, that was something we weren’t happy with. The result is always the result, but it’s important to perform well and the first 20, 25 minutes of the match we weren’t happy with that, how we performed, how we acted as a team, the identity we want to show, so we emphasized that.”

Thelin does not believe the defeat will derail the positive journey his side have been on as they look to bounce back against a bottom-of-the-table Hibs side.

“A season is long, you know you’re going to win some games and sometimes you’re going to lose and draw,” he added.

“We are not the only ones in the league, there are many good teams. So I don’t think there will be any impact from our behavior or our belief, because it is still a long process. We have changed in that.

“We still have things to do, we need to be more stable in some parts of the game, like how we start. That’s the first part of our journey, to be more consistent and responsible in these situations and then we can add things to our game model and our identity.”
