Angus man charged after vehicle drives over lawn and hits fire hydrant: OPP

The accident happened last night in Essa Township near Willoughby Road, between Greenwood Drive and 5th Line

Provincial police say an Angus man is facing numerous charges after a caller reported a vehicle drove across their lawn and crashed into a fire hydrant last night.

Shortly after 9:30 PM on November 25, Nottawasasga OPP responded to a traffic complaint about a possible impaired driver in Essa Township, in the area of ​​Willoughby Road, between Greenwood Drive and 5th Line.

As a result of the investigation, Robert Malone, 60, of Angus, has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle (alcohol and drugs), operating a motor vehicle while malfunctioning (blood drug concentration), failure to report of a collision, failure to report damage to property on a highway and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.

In addition to the charges, the driver received a 90-day driver’s license suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The suspect will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on January 2, 2025 to answer the charges.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
