Maine man accused of shooting and wounding his mother in Belgrade

A 26-year-old man is in custody after allegedly shooting and critically wounding his mother at her home in Belgrade, Maine, on Sunday, Maine State Police said.

Christina Bell, 58, was shot at her home on Point Road around 11 a.m., police said.

She was flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland and later transferred to a hospital in Boston with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

Samuel Bell, 26, was arrested by state police while driving a short distance away on Guptill Road, police said. According to police, he is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Samuel Bell did not live at the Belgrade home, police said. Belgrade is located about 18 kilometers north of Augusta.
