Pedestrian killed on Austell Road in Cobb County Tuesday morning

COBB COUNTY, Ga. – Cobb County police are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian near Orange Hill Drive and Austell Road on Tuesday morning.

Officials tell FOX 5 25-year-old Comfort Nkenganyi was crossing Austell Road when she was struck by a white 2021 Toyota Highlander.

According to investigators, Nkenganyi was in the crosswalk at the time of the crash, but the signal read “Do Not Walk.”

According to authorities, the driver of the car tried to avoid the pedestrian but was unable to swerve in time.

“Tragically, at least two additional vehicles subsequently struck Nkenganyi and left the scene without stopping,” the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office wrote in its news release.

The Cobb County Medical Examiner pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

The case is still under investigation. Officials have not said whether those involved will be charged.
