Warming up for the working week

Warming up for the working week

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – Temperatures in Eastern Kentucky remained in the low to mid 60s on Sunday with sunny, clear skies. Clear skies will continue Monday as temperatures in the mountains move toward the low to mid 70s.

SHORT LINES:

  • Mild temperatures return
  • Chances of rain until the end of October
  • Driest October ever measured?

DISCUSSION:

A warmer week is ahead as temperatures will climb into the mid-70s on Monday and reach the low 80s by Wednesday. Partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures will continue through Thursday before a front brings the chance of rain, wind and possibly thunderstorms on Halloween night. After the front, there is a chance of rain Friday morning until the afternoon and then the sky will start to clear. The forecast rain on Thursday is the last chance to get nearly a half inch of rain to prevent October 2024 from becoming the driest October in recorded history for Eastern Kentucky.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The first week of November is forecast to have above average temperatures in the low to mid 70s and a slightly above average chance of precipitation. Rain will be desperately needed as October has been abnormally dry, making forested areas more susceptible to fire as we move into late fall.
