Doctor is no longer allowed to practice in two states

MIRAMAR, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A local doctor accused of removing the wrong organ from at least two patients will no longer be allowed to practice in two states.

Florida Department of Health records show Thomas Shaknovsky’s license will be revoked as of Nov. 14.

On Monday, the Alabama Medical Licensure Commission announced that he had surrendered his license.

News Channel 7 has requested Florida’s disciplinary records for the retirement and is awaiting a response.

His new status means he is not authorized to practice in Florida, but he is not required to update his profile.

Before that, Shaknovsky’s license was suspended and lawsuits were filed after records showed he removed a 70-year-old Alabama man’s liver instead of his spleen.

William Bryan was murdered last summer while a patient at Ascension Sacred Heart in Miramar.

A report shows another patient suffered “long-term, permanent damage” following surgery in March 2023, which saw a 58-year-old patient’s pancreas removed instead of his adrenal gland.

That case was settled in a malpractice claim.
