Kerala High Court seeks response from state on plea seeking CBI probe into ADM Naveen Babu’s death, calls for diary

The Kerala High Court on Wednesday (November 27) directed the investigating officer to produce the case diary and file an affidavit regarding the investigation into the death of former Kannur ADM Naveen Babu.

Naveen Babu’s widow does moved the Supreme Court seeking CBI probe into her husband’s death. The petition came before the court of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas.

Naveen Babu was found hanging at his official residence in Kannur on the morning of 15/10/2024. On the previous day, during his farewell, former Kannur Panchayat president PP Divya reportedly made comments against the ADM, implicitly hinting that the ADM was accepting bribes to give approval for a petrol pump. PP Divya is currently under investigation for abetting his suicide, but he is free bail. The case is currently being investigated by the Special Investigation Team. (TO SIT).

Babu’s wife in her plea alleges that the “namesake” SIT, comprising officers from the local police station, failed to investigate the case fairly. She claims that the suspect holds an influential political position and that the investigation team is trying to hide evidence and help the suspect fabricate evidence. The petitioner also submitted that the possibility of homicidal hanging cannot be ruled out.

The petitioner also requested an interim suspension to prevent the police from filing a final report. The Court rejected this request and said that the Court’s power will not be curtailed once the final report is submitted.

Special public prosecutor Dr KP Satheesan, assisted by advocate Bharath Mohan, appeared for the CBI. The court has also issued notice to the CBI in this case.

The issue will then be posted on December 6.
