Moscow-led security bloc chief warns of West’s inability to build dialogue – Military and Defense

MOSCOW, November 27. /TASS/. The West’s unwillingness to build a dialogue with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) reveals a dangerous lack of understanding of how to ensure international security, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said in an interview with TASS.

“There is a dangerous lack of understanding of what security is in today’s world and how it can be guaranteed behind the attitude of Western politicians and their unwillingness to engage in dialogue with the CSTO,” he stressed.

The Secretary General emphasized that “the CSTO has not taken the initiative to sever ties (with the West).” Moreover, “there are United Nations platforms where it is impossible to completely block the CSTO,” he added. In particular, according to Tasmagambetov, Russia in July initiated discussions in the UN Security Council on the role of the CSTO, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in maintaining international peace and security. On November 18, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on cooperation between the United Nations and the CSTO, despite opposition from NATO countries.

“If politicians and government officials call for honest international dialogue and equal cooperation, they can only be welcomed,” Tasmagambetov emphasizes.
