A 25-year-old woman died by suicide on Wednesday, allegedly to escape sexual harassment by a man at an apartment complex My Home Bhooja, Raidurgam.

Hyderabad: A 25-year-old woman died by suicide on Wednesday, allegedly to escape sexual harassment by a man at an apartment complex My Home Bhooja, Raidurgam.

According to police, the victim, who hails from Odisha, jumped to her death from the ninth floor of the apartment complex, where she was staying in an apartment owned by one Rajesh Babu. The victim’s husband stayed in another accommodation with her four-year-old son.

On Tuesday evening, the woman allegedly called her husband and told him that Rajesh Babu (54) was sexually harassing her and that she was going to end her life. The victim’s husband rushed to the apartment complex in hopes of saving her life. However, upon arrival he found her body lying on the floor.

Following a complaint, the police have registered a case against Rajesh Babu under Section 75 (ii) and 108 of the BNS and are conducting an investigation.

Unconfirmed reports suggested that Rajesh Babu had brought the woman to the city from Odisha through middlemen for surrogacy and kept the woman in his flat. A deal of Rs. 10 lakh was paid with the victim’s husband and a small token amount was paid as advance by Rajesh Babu.

However, the woman was unaware of this development and did not want to stay away from her family and took her own life.
