Rasmus Hojlund wants to take one thing from ‘very consistent’ Manchester United teammate

While Rasmus Hojlund is at one end of the age spectrum, many of his teammates at Manchester United are somewhere at the other end.

And that in itself may be a problem that Ruben Amorim, Dan Ashworth, Jason Wilcox and co will have to solve under pressure in the coming years.

How many Manchester United players can really be considered footballers at the peak of their powers? Bruno Fernandes, Andre Onana, Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez for sure.

But most of the others in Amorim’s squad are still developing – see Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo and the aforementioned Rasmus Hojlund – or descend to the other side of the hill.

And while Christian Eriksen isn’t ready to trade his studs for slippers just yet, the 32-year-old playmaker is one of several aging stars unlikely to be part of Ruben Amorim’s long-term plans at Old Trafford.

Yet the experienced Dane is one of Man United’s most impressive players this season. Paul Scholes states that Christian Eriksen is present improves the Red Devils when he pulls the strings on the pitch, giving them the control and composure they otherwise lack.

And Hojlund, a teammate of Eriksen’s both at Man United and for Denmark, is keen to put the lessons he has learned from the former Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, Ajax and Brentford star to good use.

Rasmus Hojlund wants to be inspired by Manchester United’s Christian Erisken

“I think we’ve seen for a long time on the pitch that he maintains a very consistent high level,” Hojlund told the Man United manager. website ahead of Thursday’s Europa League match against Bodo/Glimt.

“I haven’t seen many bad games from Christian. He always seems to be very consistent, to have a good level and I think that is a quality in itself. That’s what kept him at the highest level for so long and that’s what I’m trying to learn from him.

“(Eriksen is always) very good and focused. Off the field he takes very good care of his family and his companions.”

Eriksen did start Amorim’s Man United debut on Sunday during the 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town.

This was largely due to the fact that Amorim felt that Manuel Ugarte was not ready after a late return from international duty, while Eriksen’s lack of mobility is likely to be the biggest factor leading to his seemingly inevitable departure in 2025.

Eriksen has not ruled out leaving Man United in JanuaryIn the meantime.

Eriksen praises Danish star Hojlund’s eye for goal

As for Hojlund, the task facing the £64m number nine is to prove he is best suited to take charge in Amorim’s system.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring at Portman Road, with Hojlund limited to a brief cameo role. Gary Neville questions Rashford’s fitness however, at centre-forward. This potentially opens the door for Hojlund to step into Viktor Gyokeres’ shoes.

“What is the best thing Hojlund offers on the field? For Rasmus you obviously get the eagerness to get into the penalty area and score the goals,” says Eriksen, returning the compliment to his young protégé. “It’s nice to see how much he wants to score a goal, to get into good situations.

“He is doing very well with that. And obviously the next (challenge) is achieving the goal and all that. But the eagerness to get into the goal is very impressive.

“Off (the field) he is a very nice guy! He trains hard and treats people well. He’s a great guy to be around.”
