Chennai: A special court for exclusive trial of POCSO cases in Chennai has sentenced two men to 20 years in prison for kidnapping and raping two minor girls. The court sentenced the duo’s accomplice to 10 years in prison.
Session Judge Rajalakshmi, who delivered the verdict on Tuesday, directed the state to pay Rs 1.35 lakh as compensation to the survivors.
Two schoolgirls studying in classes IX and Three days later, they went to Guindy police station and revealed that they had eloped and contacted I Mani, 27, from Vadapalani, whom they had befriended on social media.
According to the all-female Guindy police, Mani initially tried to molest the girls at his home before taking them to a nearby hall that evening along with his friends S Dinesh, 26, and H Shankar, 46. They tried to rape them in the hall. The next morning, the men dropped the girls off at the Koyambedu bus stop. The girls sought help from a friend, who advised them to contact the police.
Further investigation revealed that Shankar had raped one of the girls six months earlier by luring her to TV shooting sets. The three men were charged under Section 366 of the IPC (kidnapping) and provisions of the POCSO Act.
In a separate case, the court on Thursday sentenced S Ramu, 24, from Bihar, to 20 years in prison for raping a minor girl. Ramu, who worked as a housekeeper in the girl’s home, abused her in a guest room while other family members slept.
