A wanted terrorist with links to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has been deported to India from Rwanda in connection with a terror conspiracy case in the jail in Bengaluru, officials said on Thursday.

The terrorist was identified as Salman Rehman Khan against whom Interpol had issued a Red Corner Notice. He was also wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The NIA and CBI had coordinated Khan’s return with the Interpol National Central Bureau, Kigali (the capital of Rwanda) in East Central Africa.

How did the NIA secure Salman Rehman Khan’s extradition?

The Anti-Terrorism Agency (NIA) had filed a case against him in 2023 for criminal conspiracy as he was a member of LeT. Khan was arrested from Hebbal police station in Bengaluru for supplying arms, ammunition and explosives to carry out terror activities in the capital Karnataka.

At the request of the CBI, the NIA obtained an Interpol Red Corner Notice (RCN) against Khan on August 2 and circulated it to law enforcement agencies across the world to facilitate his arrest.

He was in Rwanda and was brought back to India in collaboration with Interpol Kigali authorities, where he was charged to court by the NIA.
