Police charge tiler for allegedly raping his employer’s wife

Police in Lagos have arraigned a 27-year-old tiler, Qudus Kazeem, before the Lagos State High Court in Surulere for allegedly raping his employer’s wife.

Kazeem was arraigned by police before Magistrate Sanusi Adagun on four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, threatening life, obtaining money by false pretenses and theft.

The prosecutor, Inspector Reuben Solomon, informed the court that the suspect committed the offenses in December 2022 at 8/10 Kola John, near Feyintola Giwa Street, Surulere, Lagos.

Solomon had also alleged that the accused, who was hired to lay tiles in the apartment of one Damilare Gbadamosi, allegedly left work and forced himself on his wife.

The prosecutor also informed the magistrate that the suspect threatened to destroy the victim’s marriage if she did not send him money or voluntarily engage in sexual relations with him.

He further alleged that the alleged offenses were contrary to Sections 56(1)(a), 260, 280 and 314(1) of the Criminal Code of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant’s plea was not accepted, but the magistrate ordered the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send a copy to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

Magistrate Adagun had adjourned the case for hearing until December 18 after remanding the suspect to the Ikoyi facility of the Nigerian Correctional Services.
