Taylor Fritz argues with fans over Iga Swiatek’s doping drama

The entire tennis world was shocked on Thursday morning when they heard that WTA world number 2 Iga Swiatek had tested positive for a banned substance and was suspended for a month.

Swiatek joined ATP world number 1 Jannik Sinner, who also had a doping controversy this year. Worse still for tennis, it appears the sport’s governing bodies and agencies were less than transparent during the tennis era months-long process.

The combination of shocking news and hazy facts acts as an accelerator for popular insights on social media. ATP World No. 4 Taylor Fritz felt compelled to speak out about the discourse among tennis fans on social media.

“What drives me crazy about these situations (in terms of do,” says Fritz.

He added: “It’s fine to have your own honest opinion, but what I can’t fathom and what is so disturbing to see as a player is the INSANE bias of the tennis public that supports whatever narrative that pushes the agenda pushes who they want to push.”

Fritz concluded: “Even if you can prove your innocence as a player (not saying someone is or isn’t), people who support rival players/prejudice against you will always blindly tell the story that you are a cheater, and that The fact is true. It makes me sad for all the real innocent players who have to go through this.”

Fritz then replied to several fans on social media. Many of the people participating in the debate went off topic quite quickly. As always, social media is not a conducive medium for thoughtful discussions, and today they are a prime example of that for tennis fans.
