Jade and her goons text Ross a location where he can get April back if he takes the money. The bad boy is shocked when he realizes he is being lured into the same multi-storey car park April’s mother Donna died in 2014.

Speak with Digital spy and other media at a recent press event, Michael explained: “Ross knows that Jade is a dangerous and sinister character. But I don’t think he realizes how deep the rabbit hole goes with her and what she is willing to do to make sure she wins and gets her money back.

“It is extremely traumatic for Ross to be back at the place where Donna died. It brings back the worst memories. Watching someone die, especially the first girl who ever loved him and his first experience with love, was quite a traumatic event for him. .

“Ross still feels like he’s like a big brother or father figure in April’s life, even though he hasn’t seen her in a while. It is largely due to his relationship with Jade that this happens. Even if that isn’t the case. It is really his fault that the money is lost, he still feels responsible for it.”

When asked if Ross has ever loved anyone as much as Donna, Michael replied: “I think that was his first experience of love. When love is taken away from you, you always glamorize it and think about what could have been. There was a scene after Donna had died and Ross was back at his old house and the director, Duncan Foster, came to me.

“It was a brilliant note. I was listening to music and trying to get into the head space and he came up to me and said, ‘She’s the only girl who’s ever loved you’. Ross wasn’t really in a relationship with his mother because she suffered from postpartum depression. So no one can live up to Donna in his eyes.”

Michael further discussed what it was like to work again with Amelia Flanagan, who has played the young character April for ten years.

He said: “She’s turning into a real little adult! It was so crazy how amazing she was when she walked in. She was four years old and she always knew her lines and she was good at saying, ‘That’s not your line, this is actually what you’re saying.’ She was so aware of what was going on.

“She’s really kept that going and she’s a fine young actress. She’s a lot of fun too. She’s got a really good sense of humor and you can joke around with her and stuff. She’s great to work with.”
