Gunman shot, killed by Phoenix officers: police

A suspect was killed after an officer-involved shooting in Phoenix late Thursday night.

The shooting stemmed from a fight at a convenience store just before 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 28 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road.

Phoenix According to police, officers responded to reports of a suspect pulling a gun and threatening someone. The suspect fled the scene, but a witness was able to provide police with a description of the suspect’s vehicle.

Officers spotted the suspect’s car nearby and attempted to pull it over, but the driver did not stop and ran away.

Police saying the vehicle was being followed 79th Avenue and Mitchell Drivewhere the suspect got out of the car and ran into a backyard.

A suspect who allegedly pulled a gun was shot and killed by Phoenix police officers near 79th Avenue and Mitchell Drive on Nov. 28. The suspect was not identified.

“Officers arrived in this area and began closing in on the home,” said Sgt. said Rob Scherer. “While doing so, they heard what they believed to be a gunshot coming from the backyard of the residence.”

Officers then saw a man matching the suspect’s description.

“This man was seen with a gun in his hand and holding it up,” Scherer said. “This is when the officer involved in shooting happened.”

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not identified.

The area of 79th Avenue and Mitchell Drive is closed due to investigation.
