Househunter looking for a new home in trendy Hackney turns up to view £525,000 property – but there’s one big problem

A house hunter was shocked to discover the £500,000 London property she had viewed was not a three-storey house but the ‘shed’ next door.

Charlotte Moran shared a clip on TikTok after finding the property, which was listed for £525,000 despite being just 545 square feet and having been converted into a one-bedroom, one-bathroom unit.

In the clip, you can hear Charlotte pointing to the larger property, saying: ‘I’m looking at this. I thought, wow, look at that house.

However, the ‘shed’ is attached to a large three-storey property, leaving some social media users confused as to which property was actually for sale.

Charlotte then realizes her mistake, points to the tiny white building next door and says: ‘No, it’s the warehouse next door for half a million pounds.’

However, some people have argued that it is “very cheap by Hackney standards”, with one stating that “you are paying for the potential” of the property.

Listed by Winkworth estate agents, the recently refurbished home promises to be “functional and aesthetically pleasing”, as well as offering a “delightful” outdoor space with parking included.

A spokesperson for Winkworth said: ‘You wouldn’t get this kind of house for £525,000.

‘Anyone who thinks that doesn’t necessarily know about property, in my opinion.

‘If it were up to me it would be a little less, but it would have the potential to go up an extra floor and turn it into a beautiful two-storey house with a garden.

‘It’s attached to another building so effectively you have to take a photo of the whole thing. It is part of the property of that building. You also have to show this because it is a conversion.

‘Considering it is also part of the same (building), it will all be under the same freehold company, you must show the building.

“The main advantages are that it has a garden, is closed and has its own entrance. It is very close to Clapton station and has recently been refurbished.

“It is a very sought after area. It’s very central.

‘The potential justifies the price. To potentially go up and add an extra story.

However, some house hunters on social media were less convinced about the price.

One said: ‘Someone needs to tell the estate agent, ‘that’s a garage sir’.’

Another said: ‘Stop it. It’s a portable cabin.

One added: ‘You could literally buy a mansion here in Scotland for this, it’s crazy.’

Charlotte replied: ‘Honestly, Hackney has gone mad.’
