How to make the rebirth end

The remake of Silent Hill 2 has finally hit stores and the gaming community wasted no time getting into the story to revisit the mysterious and scary town of Silent Hill. The game developers at Bloober Team have recaptured what made the original version a success with a twist.

There are a few ways to end a playthrough and some newer ones that can only be achieved by replaying the story through a New Game Plus file. Many fans would consider the Rebirth ending to be the canon ending for a replay; however, some items are required to unlock this version.

The rebirth ending in the Silent Hill 2 remake could be a chore

Game developers in Bloober Team didn’t hesitate and gave this beloved classic the remake treatment it deserves. The visuals, graphics, sound design, character models and everything else have been rebuilt from the ground up thanks to the impressive power of Unreal Engine 5 to make the titular Silent Hill feel like part of a spooky town.

Remake players can go for a second round with New Game Plus and the developers have added an extra ending called the Rebirth Ending. By the name itself, James Sunderland intends to make a bargain with the Old Gods of Silent Hill to resurrect his deceased wife, Mary.

To reach the End of Rebirth, players must acquire some necessary items. Collectibles can be the worst part of a video game, especially if they are the last piece to get the platinum trophy; however, these items may determine James’ alternate fate at the end of this story.

The first item is the Crimson Ceremony, which can be found near the starting area. The remake begins with James looking out over the town of Silent Hill while walking on foot. James meets a woman named Angela, grieving and lost in a local cemetery. The two exchange dialogue and Angela warns James to avoid entering the city. The book can be seen on a lonely grave near a tree.

The second item is White Chrism, and this item can be obtained in the west of South Vale. Silent Hill 2 players will find Jack’s Inn and later stumble upon the Baldwin Mansion, where the White Chrism is on the table near the entrance.

The third item is the Obsidian Chalice, and it is located inside the Silent Hill Historical Society. James and Mary have a unique history with this museum after seeing the Red Pyramid, better known as the Head of the Pyramid. The cup can be seen in the main room with the painting on the right.

Lastly, the Lost Memories book can be found inside the Lakeside Hotel, near the Lost and Found room. Once all of these items are in James’ possession, players will be able to continue as normal and the Rebirth ending will be unlocked.

The gaming community is still in doubt about which ending of the Silent Hill 2 remake is Canon

This alternate ending can be quite tricky to interpret. James still feels guilty about what he did to his wife and is desperate to find some form of atonement. The developers designed each alternate ending to follow the same structure of boss fights and whatnot, with some alternate cutscenes and dialogue.

James can be seen boarding a boat with something covered in white cloth. Fans assumed it was Mary and James who intended to make a deal with whatever deity ruled the lands of Silent Hill years ago to bring back their dead wife. Perhaps this ritual could cause you more emotional trauma.

It is important to note that if players missed at least one of the four items required to unlock the Rebirth ending, that ending would not be available for that specific playthrough. Players should check their inventories before proceeding.

James is adamant about making this ritual work as he paddles the darkest parts of the lake with limited visibility. The ending is quite threatening and the game developers wanted Silent Hill 2 players decipher the meaning of this alternate ending or interpret it however they see fit.
