Man accused of greenway murder in Antakya will undergo mental evaluation

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The man accused of killing a 34-year-old woman on the Antioch greenway has had his court date rescheduled to undergo a mental evaluation, according to the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office.

Paul Park, 29, is charged with the death of Alyssa Lokits. Metro Nashville police arrested Park, charging him with murder in the fatal shooting on Mill Creek Greenway.

MNPD said the investigation showed Lokits was walking in the greenway area when Park allegedly began following him. Police said Park was later seen returning to his vehicle with scratches on his arms and blood on his clothing.

Before he got back to his car, witnesses heard a woman yelling, “Help! “He’s trying to rape me,” he said, and then gunshots were heard. Officers found the Lokits lying with gunshot wounds near the wooded area. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died.

Antakya greenway murder:

A law aimed at providing treatment for criminals deemed incompetent to stand trial and also restricting their ability to purchase guns was passed earlier this year. Jillian’s Law was named after a Belmont University freshman who was allegedly killed by a man previously deemed incompetent to stand trial.

If a person is deemed incompetent to judge, that person can fall into two categories and may have a mental health problem or an intellectual disability. In both cases, the law said that if space was available, they would go to an inpatient facility for treatment.

The law also states that defendants can appear in court once they reach driver’s license, but can otherwise go to an outpatient treatment facility, another of Jamail’s concerns.
