Man, 2 children hospitalized after Berlin Twp crash and vehicle fire

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An Orange Township man and his two children were hospitalized following a crash in Berlin Township Thursday evening.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., deputies with the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of ​​South State Road and Bennett Road for a vehicle fire.

Responding deputies learned that a 2012 Subaru Impreza had left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.

Bystanders were able to reach the vehicle while it was on fire and open the door so the driver and the two children inside could get out, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver, a 27-year-old Orange Township man, and two children, ages 3 and 9, were taken to the hospital. The sheriff’s office said the man had non-life-threatening injuries and medical treatment of the children was precautionary.
