Hyundai N unveils the next generation RN24 on N Day 2024

At the ‘N Day 2024’ event on October 25, 2024, Hyundai’s high-performance N division unveiled the RN24, billed as the next-generation ‘Rolling Lab’ and showcasing N’s vision for the near future.

The annual event highlights N’s three pillars: Corner Rascal, Racetrack Capability and Everyday Sportscar, and reflects the brand’s commitment to creating engaging driving experiences made possible with EV technology.

The RN24 chassis features WRC-style suspension with rally-specific dampers and highly rigid subframes

Fueled by a desire to pack the most powerful EV powertrain into the smallest possible package, N combined the IONIQ 5 N’s 641 hp dual-motor power electronics (PE) system with a World Rally Championship-inspired EV chassis, while a The updated battery pack retains the original capacity of 84 kWh and provides a shorter wheelbase.

Equipped with the WRC Powertrain Drive Control Logic system, drivers can adjust various functions using the steering wheel buttons. In addition, adjustments to the IONIQ 5 N system used in the RN24 improve battery and engine cooling performance, with a steering setup providing rally car-level response that promises extra agility.

The car’s e-handbrake helps reduce weight by eliminating the need for physical brakes used in processes such as preheating the side brakes

The car’s ‘Rally Mode’ engine torque control, similar to that of the i20 N Rally 1, helps improve the distribution of torque to all four wheels, reducing the complexity and cost of the system.

It features a rigid, exposed exoskeleton-style roll cage, inspired by WRC concepts, ensuring occupant safety and improving overall performance during high-speed maneuvers.

The car’s soundtrack is enhanced by a rear fender that acts as a sound box, creating a compelling soundtrack that complements its powerful capabilities

In addition, the RN24 is equipped with a spoiler from Hyundai’s Touring Car Racing models, which improves aerodynamic performance and improves agility and stability, with 3D printed inserts for better stiffness and weight reduction.

As Joon Park, vice president of N Brand Management Group, mentions, the car is an example of N’s commitment to “advancing electric motorsport technology by prioritizing the driving experience over specifications.”
