Deshaun Watson is having surgery today for a torn Achilles tendon

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is ready for his Achilles surgery.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Watson will have his torn Achilles tendon surgery repaired today.

Players typically take about nine months to return from a torn Achilles tendon, and NFL training camps open in nine months. So Watson is probably on the cusp of being ready when camps open.

What’s unclear is whether Watson will be in camp with the Browns — or with another team. His play has been terrible, and the Browns know they have alienated many of their fans by signing a player accused of sexual assault and harassment by more than two dozen female massage therapists. It’s possible the Browns will cut their losses and no other team wants him either.

What is clear is that Watson is still getting a lot of money from the Browns. The five-year, $230 million contract the team gave him was fully guaranteed and runs through the 2026 season.
