Silent Hill 2 update released today fixes a ‘critical issue’

The Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team and Konami got an update a few days ago, shortly after launch, to address some issues players had been experiencing since release. However, another problem was discovered soon after, one seemingly introduced by the update itself and determined by the Silent Hill 2 makers to a “critical” problem that could prevent players of progress in the game. Now a new update has been released today to fix that issue, along with a new feature, but that feature is only for those playing on PC.

This Silent Hill 2 hotfix released today on Friday is almost entirely focused on the progression blocker, aside from the new PC feature that allows cloud saves on Steam, so the patch notes for the update are quite short. The issue in question was that players had completed the Labyrinth portion of the game with these patch notes confirming that the progression issue was indeed related to Patch 1.04. Fortunately, patch 1.05 solves this problem.

Solutions

Labyrinth progress blocker

  • Fixed an issue where players who saved their game in the Labyrinth after Toluca Prison in the previous version would encounter a progress freeze when loading save data after updating to Patch 1.04. We implemented a solution by adding a safeguard that enforces the correct activation of the necessary triggers, ensuring smooth progress in the future.

Features

Steam Cloud Savings

  • We have enabled Steam Cloud support for PC players on Steam®. Please note that the game will automatically sync with the latest cloud save data. If the cloud storage is more recent than the local storage, the local data will be overwritten without any warning pop-up. We recommend that players back up their local saves if you want to keep multiple versions.

Considering these are the only cleanup issues that needed to be resolved in the most recent period Silent Hill 2 update, this further speaks to the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake. It’s already highly regarded, much to the surprise of those who doubted Bloober Team after some mediocre games in the past like The remedy which has helped increase interest in the developer’s new game called Cronos: The New Dawn. Bloober Team itself has not been unaware of these past criticisms and has done so dedicated to making stronger games is also moving forward.

You can check out our review of Silent Hill 2 here with a clip of it below to show what the Silent Hill 2 remake felt like from the perspective of someone who hadn’t experienced the original if you’re a newcomer to the series.

“As a newcomer to Silent Hill 2, I am so impressed with this new remake. The Bloober team captured the spirit of games from this early PS2 era so faithfully that it left me reminiscing and longing to go back and play more games from that era,” reads an excerpt from our review. “To that end, I have a strong desire to go back to the original Silent Hill 2 and see how it fits into this remake. While I can’t say how long SH2 fans will receive this updated version of the game, for anyone who hasn’t played any Silent Hill games yet, this is a perfect starting point.
