Alexander Zverev melts against Lorenzo Musetti in Vienna

Tennis fans continue to balance the many tournaments taking place today. On Friday afternoon, top-seeded Alexander Zverev took on six-seeded Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals of the Vienna Open (Erste Bank Open).

Zverev and Musetti had split their two previous matches, with Musetti emerging victorious in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Despite falling behind early in the match, Musetti came back to beat Zverev in three sets, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Musetti started slowly, losing the first set in less than 40 minutes. The second set, however, told a different story. Zverev missed several opportunities to put Musetti away in the second set, but ultimately lost in a tiebreak.

After the 22-year-old held on to force a third set, Zverev began to tighten up. Musetti’s perseverance was rewarded with a decisive third set, completing the victory.

Musetti takes the third top-three victory of his career and advances to the semi-finals. He will take on Jack Draper on Saturday, October 26. Musetti is the ATP world number 17 with a 40-25 record this season.

In the meantime, Zverev goes home early again. Despite falling short, he is currently ranked No. 3 in the world with a 61-20 record and has already secured a spot in the ATP Finals next month.
