Three charged in shooting investigation in Chipl

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Three men have been charged in connection with a shooting and chase investigation in Washington County.

According to the Chipley Police Department, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of ​​Church Street and Deermont Circle in Chipley on October 24 around 6 p.m.

Officers said witnesses told them he and others had gathered in a courtyard when they saw three people standing near a white Kia Soul parked across the street.

According to law enforcement, witnesses said the three individuals had firearms and began shooting in their direction.

Officers later found shell casings at the scene and multiple bullets lodged in an occupied building, a vacant building and the driver’s side door of the witnesses’ vehicle.

Law enforcement officials said the suspects fled in the Kia Soul after the firing, prompting a BOLO alert. Washington County deputies were able to locate the vehicle and attempt to conduct a traffic stop.

This reportedly led to a high-speed chase that ended when the Kia crashed. Officers detained the driver and passenger, later identified as JaMarion Pride and Keante Pride.

During the investigation, officers said a neighbor informed them that a person matching one of the suspects’ descriptions had entered her yard and asked to borrow shoes and make a phone call.

Officers were later able to identify the person as Nassir Wright, who reportedly tried to get a ride to Fort Walton Beach before leaving the area on foot.

Wright was later found and detained on Highway 90 near Avant Road.

Investigators said they found a loaded AK-47-style magazine and loose ammunition in the suspect vehicle. A firearm was also located along the pursuit route, which is probably involved.

Law enforcement said that based on the evidence, JaMarion Pride, Keante Pride and Nassir Wright are charged under Florida Statute 790.19 for shooting deadly missiles into occupied or unoccupied buildings or vehicles.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office charged all traffic-related violations, including the driver with fleeing and eluding LEO at a high rate of speed.
