Report: An ‘Oregon Trail’ film inspired by the video game is being developed for Apple

If you have fond memories of playing the video game “Oregon Trail”, try prevent you from getting dysenteryand falling victim to other diseases, good news! According to The Hollywood Reporter A film is being developed inspired by the game about settlers moving west in a group of covered wagons.

The Hollywood Reporter story says a film adaptation of the game is in early development at Apple Will Speck And Josh Gordon slated to direct and produce. According to sources, the story continues, the film will feature “a few original musical numbers in the vein of ‘Barbie,’” courtesy of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who are composing and producing original music.

Pasek and Paul recently won an Emmy for their song “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?”, which was featured on last season’s “Only Murders in the Building.”

The Hollywood Reporter story also says that Lucas Bros (Keith and Kenny Lucas) and Max Reisman will write the screenplay for what is described as an action comedy inspired by “the game intended to recreate the 19th century pioneer era, a covered wagon train heading west. The game was created in 1971 and achieved cult status among American elementary school students in the 1990s as one of the first educational computer games allowed in schools – and for its hilariously dark storylines full of broken arms, typhoid fever and dysentery.”
