Drew Barrymore shocked fans when she chokingly ran offstage during a taping of her talk show.

The 49-year-old actress – who recently took out her hair extensions live on TV – was interviewing actor Henry Winkler on Friday when the situation quickly went wrong.

Moments after taking a sip from her mug, fans gasped as the Culver City resident apologized and ran off the set while gesturing for help.

‘Don’t worry. Don’t worry. It’s okay,” Winkler said, comforting Barrymore as she hurried backstage. ‘No? OK.’

Knowing the show had to go on, the Happy Days star sprang into action, asking the audience, “So thank you for being here.” It’s so much fun. So, while we wait, is there anything you’d like to hear?’

Fans began shouting at the actor, with one suggesting his 2003 sitcom Arrested Development, produced by Fox.

The actor, who struggles with dyslexia, jumped on the idea, filling the silence surrounding how he became a series regular.

He explained: ‘I went as a family lawyer and it was very difficult for me to read, so I spent a lot of time adlibrating.

‘I was there in my first scene in the living room with the rest of the family and I have a bunch of Danishes on the table. And I open my suitcase and as I talk to them, I draw the Danes closer and closer.’

The Click star then said he “dropped the Dane in (his) diplomatic bag.” And I stayed there for five years… that was really written by a genius.’

As he wrapped up his story, Barrymore quickly recovered and rejoined Winkler on stage as fans cheered the sparkler.

‘That’s never happened to me in my life. Please excuse me so much. I’m so sorry,” the actress apologized.

To which her interviewee replied, “No! Are you human?’

The duo brushed off the situation and moved on to the next part of the episode.
