Bicycle-borne assailants open fire on school bus with 28 children on board in Amroha, accused arrested

Miscreants opened fire on the school bus in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district on Friday. The bus, carrying children from SRS International School, managed to escape the attack without injuries.

According to reports, the attackers blocked the bus with their bicycles and started shooting at it. However, the bus driver, Monty, quickly drove away and drove straight to the police station. There were 28 children on board at the time of the incident.

A school bus driver informed police that two to three people had stopped the bus and shot at the vehicle. Senior officials arrived on the scene shortly after receiving the information and inspected the area. A case has been registered and the suspect has been arrested. Legal action is being taken,” Amroha SP Kunwar Anupam Singh told news agency PTI.

As soon as news of the incident came to light, police arrived on the scene and began an investigation, questioning locals and inspecting the area. Police said initial investigations revealed that bus driver Monty had an argument with local youths over an accident on October 21, which appears to have prompted the attack.

In response, the bus driver Monty reported that at 7:40 in the morning, while taking the children to school, the gunmen began chasing the bus from a kilometer away. They seized their opportunity, blocked the bus with their bicycles and opened fire.

The children on board were terrified but unharmed, and all were safely returned to their families. The police have filed a report and further investigation is underway.
