A Vermont man who fired a gun while on New York Thruway faces drug and weapons charges

Warners, NY – A Vermont man who fired a gun from his vehicle on the New York Thruway early Thursday morning also had “magic mushrooms” and cocaine in his truck, according to New York State troopers.

Christopher Flynn, 28, of Bridgewater, Vermont, admitted to authorities that he fired a gun from his truck because he thought someone was following him, troopers said.

About 12:10 p.m., an unoccupied 2020 Toyota Tacoma truck with Vermont license plates was found parked on the eastbound side of the Thruway, also known as Interstate 90, troopers said. Bullet holes could be seen along with a pistol and a revolver on the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

Onondaga County sheriff’s deputies later responded to a suspicious person walking near the Holiday Inn on Winchell Road in the town of Warners, troopers said. The person was identified as Flynn, who they later discovered was the owner of the truck on the Thruway.

Flynn told officers he thought someone from Vermont was following him and fired his weapon while sitting in his truck, troopers said.

A Sig Sauer P365 pistol with a loaded magazine and a Taurus Revolver loaded with spent shell casings were found in the truck, troopers said. Magic mushrooms and cocaine were also found, police said.

Flynn was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital for evaluation.

Flynn was also taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center where he awaits arraignment. His indictment includes:

  • 2 counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a misdemeanor.
  • Two counts of criminal possession of a firearm, a misdemeanor.
  • 2 counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
