ST JAMES, Jamaica – Detectives from the St James Police Division are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of a construction worker who was shot while on the job by a group of armed thugs on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as 52-year-old bricklayer Donovan Hayles, also known as ‘Pepper’, of Green Pond, St James.

According to reports, Hayles went to a house on Campbell’s Lane, Mount Salem in the parish at about 9:30 am to repair a step when he was attacked by a group of gunmen who opened fire on him.

Hayles was shot multiple times in the upper body and died at the scene.

The motive behind the deadly attack has not yet been determined.
