Final four ready for battle

Final four ready for battle

Courts Optical U-11 Pee Wee Football Championship…

The school’s most sought-after football title, the Courts Optical Boys U-11 football tournament is steadily reaching its peak as 32 schools have now been narrowed down to the final four.
The four teams, namely defending champions St Pius, Marian Academy, Santa Rosa Primary and Belladrum, will take up the challenge for a chance to participate in the 2024 edition of the tournament finals.
Licking their wounds, champions St. Pius were given a reprieve after Rosignol Primary, who defeated them in the quarter-final, were deemed to have fielded an ineligible player.

The move saw St. Pius make another bid to regain their title, but they will face a tough test against ever-improving newcomers Marian Academy
Marian have been knocking on the door with several semi-final appearances under coach Troy Wright since claiming the first title in the tournament’s 11-year history and will be desperate to showcase their growth.
The opener will also be a cracker, with hinterland Santa Rosa Primary meeting another Berbice unit in Belladrum Primary.

Since their introduction to the tournament, Santa Rosa have shown that they belong with excellent performances so far.
But they will have to overcome debutant Belladrum who is thirsty for their first taste of hardware.
The 11th edition of the competition saw 32 teams from nine educational districts of the country converge in the city.

This year there were 15 schools from Georgetown, one from Linden, three from Bartica, three from Berbice, four from the East Coast of Demerara, one from the East Bank of Demerara, three from the West Coast of Demerara, two from Essequibo and one from Barima Waini.

The tournament started with a round robin segment and then a knockout format, with the top 16 schools advancing to the quarters and another four advancing to today.
The young people play for great prizes from Courts Mega Store.

The tournament is also sponsored by Sterling Products Limited through Igloo Ice-Cream, Stena Drilling, National Sports Commission and approved by the Ministry of Education.
