At least six people – including four police officers – were tortured and several others injured in a suicide bombing in North Waziristan, officials confirmed to Geo News on Saturday, marking the latest deadly attack on law enforcement agencies.

Law enforcement officials said the attack targeted a police post in Eidak area of Mir Ali. Four of the persons killed were police personnel, she added.

Pakistan has experienced a spike in terrorism since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Most of the terror incidents are reported in provinces bordering the neighboring country: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

About a dozen militants were eliminated this month during anti-terrorism operations by security forces in KP’s North Waziristan district as the military strives to counter the menace of terrorism in the country.

A report published earlier this month by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) stated that there was a sharp increase in the number of fatalities caused by terrorist violence and counter-terrorism campaigns in the third quarter of 2024, with a 90% increase in violence in the country.

The total number of fatalities in three quarters of this year surpassed the total number of fatalities in all of 2023, with 722 deaths, including civilians, security personnel and bandits.

Nearly 97% of these fatalities occurred in KP and Balochistan – the highest percentage in a decade.
