Balasore (Odisha) Oct 26 (PTI) A local court in Odisha’s Balasore district on Saturday sentenced a man to 20 years in jail after convicting him of kidnapping and raping a 12-year-old girl.

Special Judge Ranjan Kumar Sutar of the Balasore POCSO Court has imposed the sentence on Rajendra Jena (24) of Balasore Town, for sexually abusing the victim after kidnapping her while she was going to a local market on the evening of April 6 went.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 and ordered another two years of imprisonment if the convict fails to pay the fine.

According to the prosecutor, the victim’s mother filed a complaint with the police on April 7, 2024. After investigation, the police arrested the accused and booked him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 6 of the POCSO Act. After hearing 15 witnesses and 26 pieces of evidence, the court made its ruling.

“The convict will serve 20 years in prison and pay the penalty. The court further ordered that Rs 4 lakh should be paid as compensation to the victim through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA),” said special public prosecutor Pranab Kumar Panda. PTI COR AAM AAM MNB
